Ingredients
Scale
Apples
- 4 medium apples (Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala work well)
Filling
- 1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
- 2 tablespoons raisins or dried cranberries
- 2 tablespoons brown sugar or coconut sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon melted butter or coconut oil
Optional Toppings
- Vanilla ice cream or Greek yogurt for serving
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer: Set the air fryer to 350°F (175°C) and allow it to preheat for a few minutes to ensure even cooking.
- Core the apples: Carefully remove the core of each apple, leaving the bottom intact to hold the filling securely inside.
- Prepare the filling: In a small bowl, mix chopped nuts, raisins, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla extract, and melted butter until thoroughly combined.
- Stuff the apples: Fill each cored apple with the prepared mixture, pressing it down gently to pack the filling inside the hollow centers.
- Arrange in the air fryer: Place the stuffed apples upright in the air fryer basket, making sure they do not touch for optimal air circulation.
- Air fry the apples: Cook for 15-20 minutes until the apples are tender and the filling is bubbly and caramelized on top.
- Cool and serve: Carefully remove the apples from the air fryer and let them cool slightly before serving. Optionally, top with vanilla ice cream or Greek yogurt for extra indulgence.
Notes
- Choose firm apples like Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala for the best texture after cooking.
- Ensure the bottom of the apple is left intact to prevent filling from leaking out during cooking.
- Feel free to substitute walnuts with pecans or other nuts as preferred.
- You can swap raisins with dried cranberries or other dried fruits to vary the flavor.
- For a dairy-free version, use coconut oil instead of butter and serve with coconut yogurt.
- Keep an eye on the apples towards the end of cooking to avoid over-softening.
