Description

Delicious and easy-to-make Cheesy Taco Sticks featuring seasoned ground beef wrapped in soft dough with melty cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses. Perfect as a snack or appetizer, served warm with salsa and sour cream for dipping.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat Mixture

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tablespoons taco seasoning
  • 1/4 cup water

Cheese Filling

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese

Dough & Topping

  • 1 package refrigerated pizza dough or crescent roll dough
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (optional)

To Serve

  • Salsa
  • Sour cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ease cleanup.
  2. Cook Beef Mixture: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and finely chopped onion, cooking until browned and onions are soft, about 6 minutes. Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Season Meat: Add taco seasoning and 1/4 cup water to the skillet. Simmer the mixture for 3 minutes, allowing it to thicken. Remove from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
  4. Prepare Dough: Roll out the refrigerated dough on a clean surface. Cut it into rectangles approximately 4 by 6 inches each to create the base for the taco sticks.
  5. Fill & Seal: Place a spoonful of the cooked taco meat mixture in the center of each dough rectangle. Sprinkle a mix of shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses on top. Fold the dough over to enclose the filling, pressing and pinching edges tightly to seal completely.
  6. Prepare for Baking: Position the filled dough rectangles seam side down on the prepared baking sheet. Whisk the beaten egg with 1 tablespoon water and brush this egg wash over the tops of each taco stick to create a golden crust. Optionally, sprinkle sesame seeds on top.
  7. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the sticks turn golden brown and the dough is cooked through.
  8. Serve: Remove from oven and let cool slightly. Serve warm with salsa and sour cream for dipping to enhance the flavors.

Notes

  • Substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter option.
  • These taco sticks freeze well; reheat in the oven or air fryer for a quick snack anytime.
  • Add diced jalapeños or black beans to the meat mixture for extra flavor and texture.
