Description

Easy Sausage Dip is a creamy, flavorful appetizer perfect for parties or casual gatherings. It combines savory ground pork sausage with cream cheese and spicy diced tomatoes, creating a rich and satisfying dip that’s delicious with chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat

  • 1 lb ground pork sausage (mild or spicy)

Dairy

  • 1 (8 oz) block cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)

Vegetables & Spices

  • 1 (10 oz) can diced tomatoes with green chilies, undrained
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Sliced green onions or jalapeños (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground pork sausage until browned and fully cooked, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain excess grease if needed.
  2. Add Cream Cheese: Reduce heat to low and stir in the softened cream cheese until melted and fully combined with the sausage.
  3. Mix in Tomatoes and Seasonings: Add the entire can of diced tomatoes with green chilies, garlic powder, and black pepper. Stir the mixture until it is hot and bubbly.
  4. Melt the Cheddar Cheese (Optional): If using shredded cheddar cheese, stir it in now and cook until melted and smooth.
  5. Serve and Garnish: Transfer the dip to a serving bowl or keep warm in a slow cooker on low. Garnish with sliced green onions or jalapeños if desired. Serve warm with tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh veggies.

Notes

  • For a spicier dip, use hot sausage or add extra jalapeños as garnish.
  • This dip can be made ahead and reheated gently on the stove or in a slow cooker.
  • For a lighter version, use reduced-fat cream cheese.
  • Ensure all ingredients, especially canned diced tomatoes and sausage, are checked for gluten if serving to gluten-sensitive guests.
