Description

A quick and flavorful ground beef and cabbage stir-fry seasoned with soy sauce, garlic, and ginger. This easy one-pan meal combines tender cabbage with savory browned beef and aromatic spices for a satisfying dinner in just 30 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef

Vegetables & Aromatics

  • 4 cups chopped cabbage (about half a medium head)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

Seasonings & Oils

  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil (for cooking)
  • Black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Chop the cabbage, dice the onion, mince the garlic, and grate the fresh ginger to have all ingredients ready for cooking.
  2. Cook Ground Beef: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef seasoned with black pepper and cook for 5-7 minutes until browned, stirring occasionally to break up the meat.
  3. Drain Fat: Remove excess fat from the skillet carefully and set the cooked ground beef aside on a plate.
  4. Sauté Aromatics: In the same skillet, add the diced onion and cook for 2-3 minutes until translucent. Then add minced garlic and grated ginger and sauté for another minute to release their flavors.
  5. Cook Cabbage: Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally until the cabbage becomes tender but still retains a bit of crunch.
  6. Combine Ingredients: Return the cooked ground beef to the skillet. Stir in soy sauce and sesame oil. Mix everything well and cook together for 2-3 minutes to blend the flavors.
  7. Finish & Serve: Taste the dish and adjust black pepper seasoning if needed. Garnish with sliced green onions and serve hot immediately for a satisfying meal.

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef to reduce excess fat.
  • You can substitute soy sauce with tamari for a gluten-free option.
  • Adding a splash of rice vinegar can add a nice tangy flavor.
  • Serve over steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
  • Leftovers keep well refrigerated for up to 3 days.
