Cookie Dough
- 1 ½ cups butter, softened
- 2 cups white sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 3 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 ½ tsp cornstarch
- 1 ½ tsp baking soda
- ¾ tsp salt
- 2 cups cake flour
- 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
Coloring and Decoration
- Orange gel food coloring
- Green gel food coloring
- Purple gel food coloring
- 2 cups white chocolate chips
- Halloween sprinkles
Instructions
- Prepare Baking Sheet: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and facilitate easy cleanup.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: Beat the softened butter and white sugar together in a stand mixer until the mixture is light, fluffy, and well combined, which will help create a tender cookie texture.
- Add Eggs and Vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing thoroughly after each addition to ensure even incorporation. Stir in the vanilla extract to infuse flavor.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the cake flour, all-purpose flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt to evenly distribute the leavening agents and seasonings.
- Mix Dry and Wet Ingredients: Gradually add the dry flour mixture to the wet butter and egg mixture, mixing until just combined to avoid overworking the dough.
- Color the Dough: Divide the dough evenly into three portions. Add orange gel food coloring to one, green to another, and purple to the last. Knead each dough portion until the color is evenly distributed.
- Form Cookies: Scoop 2 teaspoons from each colored dough portion, press the three colors together, and roll into balls. Slightly flatten each ball, roll the edges in Halloween sprinkles, and press white chocolate chips into the top for decoration.
- Chill Dough: Refrigerate the formed dough balls for 30 minutes to firm them up for baking.
- Preheat Oven: Heat your oven to 400°F (200°C) in preparation for baking.
- Bake Cookies: Place the chilled cookies on the parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 12-14 minutes, or until the edges turn golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool on a wire rack.
Notes
- Ensure the butter is softened to room temperature for easier creaming with sugar.
- Use gel food coloring rather than liquid to avoid altering dough consistency.
- Refrigeration firms the dough balls, preventing excessive spreading during baking.
- For best texture, do not overmix the dough once flour is added.
- Store cooled cookies in an airtight container for up to 5 days.
