Description
This roasted garlic recipe delivers tender, caramelized garlic cloves with a rich, mellow flavor perfect for spreading, cooking, or adding depth to dishes. Roasting in foil at 400°F creates a steamy environment that softens the cloves to a buttery texture while enhancing their natural sweetness.
Ingredients
Scale
Roasted Garlic
- 2 heads garlic
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Prepare for Roasting: Preheat your oven to 400°F. Using a sharp knife, slice about ½ inch off the top of each head of garlic, enough to expose the tops of the cloves. This step allows the olive oil to penetrate and ensures even roasting.
- Season the Garlic: Place each garlic head on a separate sheet of foil. Drizzle each with olive oil, making sure the exposed cloves are well coated. Sprinkle ¼ teaspoon of salt evenly over each head. Then, wrap the foil tightly around each garlic head to fully cover them.
- Roast to Perfection: Place the foil-wrapped garlic heads on a baking sheet and roast in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes. The garlic is done when the cloves are soft, browned, and easily squeezed out from their skins. Let the garlic cool completely before handling to avoid burns.
- Use the Garlic: Once cooled, squeeze the cloves out of their papery skins. The roasted garlic will have a spreadable, buttery consistency and can be used immediately or stored for future recipes.
Notes
- Make sure to slice just enough off the top to expose cloves but not cut too deep, to prevent drying out.
- Use foil tightly wrapped to trap steam inside for optimal softness.
- Roasted garlic can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks or frozen for longer storage.
- Perfect for spreading on bread, mixing into mashed potatoes, sauces, or salad dressings.
