Ingredients
Scale
Rice and Meat
- 2 cups cooked jasmine rice
- 200 grams thinly sliced beef
Vegetables and Aromatics
- 1 medium yellow onion, sliced
- 2 green onions, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, minced
Sauces and Oils
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Seasonings
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare Ingredients: Measure out and chop all necessary ingredients including slicing the yellow onion, chopping green onions, mincing garlic and ginger, and ensuring the beef is thinly sliced.
- Marinate Beef: Place the thinly sliced beef into a bowl and marinate with 2 tablespoons of soy sauce, salt, and pepper for 10-15 minutes to infuse flavor and tenderize the meat.
- Cook Beef: Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the marinated beef and cook until browned and cooked through, about 3-4 minutes. Remove beef from skillet and set aside.
- Caramelize Onions: In the same skillet, add the sliced yellow onions and sauté over medium heat until they turn golden brown and caramelized, about 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent burning.
- Add Garlic and Ginger: Add the minced garlic and fresh ginger to the caramelized onions and stir-fry for 30 seconds until fragrant.
- Add Rice: Add the cooked jasmine rice to the skillet, breaking up any clumps with a spatula. Mix well to combine with the onions, garlic, and ginger.
- Season Rice: Pour in the remaining 1 tablespoon of soy sauce and the sesame oil over the rice mixture. Stir thoroughly to evenly distribute the seasoning and enhance the flavor.
- Combine Beef and Finish: Return the cooked beef to the skillet. Gently mix everything together and cook for an additional 1-2 minutes to heat through and meld the flavors.
- Garnish and Serve: Stir in the chopped green onions just before serving for a fresh and vibrant touch.
Notes
- Use cold, leftover rice for best texture and to prevent sogginess.
- If jasmine rice is unavailable, basmati or long-grain rice is a good substitute.
- Adjust soy sauce quantity according to your salt preference or dietary needs.
- For extra flavor, add a splash of oyster sauce or a sprinkle of white pepper.
- Thinly slicing beef helps it cook quickly and stay tender.
