Description

Philly Steak Cheese Fries combine tender, thinly sliced steak with sautéed bell peppers and onions layered over crispy waffle fries and topped with melted White American cheese. This easy-to-make dish brings the beloved Philly cheesesteak flavors to a cheesy, crispy fry base perfect for a comforting appetizer or meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Steak and Seasonings

  • 1 lb steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper

Vegetables

  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 onion, sliced

Other

  • 8-10 slices White American cheese
  • 20 oz bag McCain Quick Cook Waffle Cut Fries (or your favorite fries)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) to prepare for the final baking step.
  2. Cook the Steak: Heat an oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Add the thinly sliced steak, season with garlic salt and black pepper, and cook until browned on all sides. Remove the steak from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Sauté the Vegetables: Reserve 1 tablespoon of the cooking liquid left in the skillet and discard the rest. Return the skillet to the stove and add the sliced green bell pepper and onion. Cook in the reserved liquid until the vegetables are tender but still slightly crisp. Remove from heat and set aside.
  4. Assemble Layers: Spread a layer of waffle fries evenly in the skillet or a baking dish. Place 4 slices of White American cheese over the fries. Add a layer of the cooked steak, followed by the sautéed vegetables.
  5. Repeat Layers and Bake: Repeat the layering process finishing with the remaining cheese slices on top. Place the skillet in the preheated oven and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Serve: Remove from oven, let cool slightly to set, then serve hot for a delicious, cheesy Philly steak experience.

Notes

  • Using an oven-safe skillet allows cooking on the stovetop and finishing in the oven without transferring dishes.
  • You can substitute the McCain Quick Cook Waffle Cut Fries with any crispy fries you prefer.
  • For extra flavor, add a splash of Worcestershire sauce when cooking the steak.
  • Make sure not to overcook the vegetables; they should remain slightly crisp for texture contrast.
