Ingredients
Scale
Fruit Mixture
- 2 cups fresh cranberries
- 3 medium tart apples (such as Granny Smith), peeled and sliced
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Cobbler Topping
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
- 1/4 cup milk (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Fruit: Wash the cranberries thoroughly, removing any stems or damaged berries. Peel and slice the apples into thin wedges to ensure even cooking and blending of flavors.
- Mix Fruit with Spices and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, combine the cranberries, apple slices, 1/2 cup of the brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and ground nutmeg. Toss the ingredients gently until the fruit is evenly coated with the sugar and spices.
- Make the Cobbler Topping: In a separate bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, remaining 1/4 cup brown sugar, rolled oats, baking powder, and salt. Add the softened butter and blend the mixture using your fingers or a pastry cutter until it becomes crumbly. Optionally, stir in the milk to help bind the topping for a moister texture.
- Assemble the Cobbler: Pour the fruit mixture into a greased 9-inch baking dish, spreading it out evenly. Spoon the cobbler topping over the fruit, covering it uniformly with the crumble mixture.
- Bake the Cobbler: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the cobbler for 35 to 40 minutes until the topping turns golden brown and the fruit mixture is bubbling around the edges.
- Cool and Serve: Remove the cobbler from the oven and let it cool for 10 to 15 minutes before serving to allow the flavors to meld and the filling to thicken slightly.
Notes
- For extra flavor, you can add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to the fruit mixture.
- To make the topping richer, substitute half of the butter with coconut oil.
- Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for added indulgence.
- Store leftovers covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheat before serving.
- Optional milk in the topping can be omitted for a drier crumble texture.
