- 1 package (3.9 ounces) instant chocolate pudding mix, prepared according to package instructions

- 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tub (8 ounces) whipped topping
Decoration
- Crushed chocolate sandwich cookies, for “dirt”
- Halloween-themed candy tombstones
- Candy pumpkins
- Gummy worms
Instructions
- Bake the Cake: Prepare the chocolate cake mix according to the package instructions. Pour the batter into a 9×13-inch pan and bake for about 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool slightly.
- Poke Holes: Using the handle of a wooden spoon, poke holes all over the surface of the warm cake to allow the pudding to seep in and add moisture.
- Add Chocolate Pudding: In a small bowl, ensure the instant chocolate pudding is prepared as per the package instructions. Pour the pudding evenly over the cake, letting it fill the holes and cover the surface.
- Prepare Cream Cheese Mixture: In a separate bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, softened butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and creamy. Then, gently fold in the whipped topping to maintain a light texture.
- Spread Topping: Evenly spread the cream cheese and whipped topping mixture over the pudding layer on the cake.
- Add ‘Dirt’ and Decorations: Sprinkle crushed chocolate sandwich cookies over the top to resemble dirt. Decorate the cake with Halloween-themed candy tombstones, candy pumpkins, and gummy worms to create a spooky graveyard scene.
- Chill: Refrigerate the assembled cake for at least 2 hours to allow it to set and the flavors to meld before serving.
Notes
- You can make the chocolate cake from scratch instead of using a box mix for a homemade touch.
- For extra depth of flavor, add a teaspoon of instant coffee powder to the chocolate pudding mix.
- Feel free to substitute any Halloween candies with your favorite seasonal treats or decorations.
