Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves, chopped
- 8 large butter lettuce leaves
Seasonings & Sauces
- 3 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
- 2 tbsp freshly squeezed lime juice
- 1 tsp chili flakes (optional)
- 1 tbsp cooking oil (for sautéing garlic)
Instructions
- Prep ingredients: Mince the garlic cloves and chop the fresh Thai basil leaves. Make sure the ground beef is fully thawed before cooking.
- Sauté garlic: Heat a tablespoon of cooking oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and cook, stirring often, until it turns golden and fragrant, about 30 seconds.
- Cook beef: Add the lean ground beef to the skillet. Cook while stirring frequently, breaking up any lumps, until the beef is fully browned, around 5 to 7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
- Add sauces: Stir in the low-sodium soy sauce and freshly squeezed lime juice into the cooked beef. If desired, sprinkle in chili flakes for some heat, and mix thoroughly to combine the flavors.
- Mix in basil: Remove the skillet from heat and gently fold in the chopped Thai basil leaves, distributing them evenly throughout the beef mixture to retain their fresh aroma.
- Assemble wraps: Spoon the warm beef mixture into each large butter lettuce leaf. Roll or fold the leaves gently to form wraps, and serve immediately for a fresh and light meal.
Notes
- Use lean ground beef to keep the recipe light and reduce fat content.
- If Thai basil is not available, holy basil or sweet basil can be used as a substitute.
- Adjust the amount of chili flakes to your preferred spice level.
- These wraps are best served fresh to maintain the crispness of the lettuce.
- For a lower sodium option, reduce the soy sauce or use a soy sauce alternative.
