Ingredients
Scale
Beef Filling
- 1 tablespoon Olive Oil (Feel free to substitute with vegetable or avocado oil.)
- 1 small Onion, diced (Opt for yellow or sweet onions for the best results.)
- 2 cloves Garlic, minced (Fresh garlic is best.)
- 1 pound Ground Beef (Consider ground turkey or chicken for a leaner alternative.)
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce (Soy sauce is a great substitute.)
- 1 tablespoon Ketchup (You can swap it with barbecue sauce.)
- 1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder (Optional.)
- 1/4 teaspoon Onion Powder (Feel free to omit it.)
- 1/4 teaspoon Smoked Paprika (Regular paprika works in a pinch.)
- Salt and Pepper to taste (Essential for flavor enhancement.)
- 1 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese (Mozzarella or pepper jack can be used.)
Wrapping & Frying
- 1 package Egg Roll Wrappers (Spring roll wrappers can be used as a substitute.)
- 1 tablespoon Olive Oil (Feel free to substitute with vegetable or avocado oil.)
Instructions
- Sauté aromatics: In a medium skillet over medium-high heat, heat 1 tablespoon olive oil. Add diced onions and minced garlic, sautéing for about 2-3 minutes until the onions become translucent and fragrant.
- Cook the ground beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet with the onions and garlic. Cook, breaking up the meat with a spatula, until it is fully browned and crumbled, about 5-7 minutes.
- Season the meat mixture: Stir in Worcestershire sauce, ketchup, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine all flavors. Remove the skillet from heat and let the mixture cool slightly.
- Add cheese: Once cooled enough to handle, fold the shredded cheddar cheese into the beef mixture ensuring even distribution.
- Prepare the egg rolls: Lay an egg roll wrapper flat on a clean surface. Moisten the edges with a little water using your fingers. Place a spoonful of the beef and cheese mixture in the center of the wrapper. Carefully fold the sides over the filling, then roll up tightly to secure the filling inside.
- Fry the egg rolls: Heat about 1 tablespoon of oil in a skillet over medium heat, enough to cover the bottom. Carefully place the egg rolls seam side down in the hot oil. Fry for 2-3 minutes on each side or until all sides are golden brown and crispy.
- Drain and serve: Remove the fried egg rolls from the skillet and place them on a napkin-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve warm and enjoy as a flavorful appetizer or snack.
Notes
- For a leaner option, substitute ground beef with ground turkey or chicken.
- Cheese alternatives like mozzarella or pepper jack work well and change the flavor profile slightly.
- Spring roll wrappers can be used if egg roll wrappers are unavailable.
- To keep egg rolls sealed better, moisten edges thoroughly before rolling.
- Use a splatter screen or cook carefully as frying egg rolls can cause oil to splatter.
- Leftovers can be reheated in an oven or air fryer to maintain crispiness.
